Solfege Cards

In the next few months I'll have a few lessons to give you an idea of how I teach my own kids music literacy!  Here is a free .pdf file of Curwen hand symbols that you can use to teach solfege to your kids!  I printed mine on cardstock and hole punched to make my own solfege "ladder" that I'll show you in a Facebook video! Community dancing is such a wonderful activity for all ages!  I have seen the question pop up in many homeschool groups about suggestions for resources to teach folk dances so I want to share some of my favorites from teaching music and dance to elementary students in public school and our homeschool groups!  If you have the opportunity to find a group already in place to attend and learn dances and observe how they teach you will have a better understanding of how to approach this in a group setting!  You may feel like at the beginning like you are herding a bunch of cats but that's ok!!!  Practice and consistency will improve the process! While planning and working on preparations for Year 1 Ambleside , I have found some amazing resources for study guides.  Unfortunately, one of the resources is no longer free so I came up with my own document that you are welcome to download and use! Tennessee Living History Curriculum

I am not a native Tennessean but always felt drawn to the state even when I was a kid growing up in Michigan.  My grandma loved watching Hee Haw and the Grand Ole Opry and was a huge Minnie Pearl fan!  My first trip to the state was in 1992 to East Tennessee and over several other trips I landed in the state for good at 17 years old in 1997 and moved to the Nashville area in 2002.  I feel very blessed to have landed here after graduating college and I LOVE raising my kids in this part of the state.   As part of our homeschool curriculum, I taught a Tennessee history class and enjoyed several years of studying the history on my own!
