Day trip to Decatur, Alabama

During the summer of 2020 we discovered a wonderful day trip from our home in south Nashville to a quaint little place in northern Alabama! Our excursions usually take us to different parts of Tennessee, or up north to Kentucky and Michigan. On a whim last year, I just went to Google maps and typed in "tourist attraction" around the Tennessee River in northern Alabama and discovered the "Delano Park Rose Garden." That piqued my interest and we had a blast visiting on two different days! We are going again soon and I thought I would type out a suggested itinerary for others who want to visit!

Stop 1

Traveling from 65 south, stop at Rhodes Ferry Park and stretch your legs while getting a great view of the Tennessee River and learn about the Nashville/Decatur Railroad and history of steamboats
100 Market St NW, Decatur, AL 35601

Stop 2

Next stop, plan on spending some time walking and take a picnic to Delano Park
825 Gordon Dr SE, Decatur, AL 35601

The beautiful rose garden and a sculpture garden give a peaceful serenity to the day! There's plenty of areas for kids to run and play around the ball fields as well. Last year the playgrounds and splash pads were closed but hopefully they have opened up this year.

Stop 3

If the weather is warm and you're up for an adventure, about 20-30 minutes down the road is Telucah Beach where the children can go swimming in the Tennessee River!
200 Talucah Rd, Valhermoso Springs, AL 35775

In addition to these stops there are restaurants and museums in Decatur that provide more fun and entertainment! Visit https://www.decaturcvb.org/ to learn more!
