Picasso at the Frist
We are changing up our Term 3 artist to study Picasso. Although he is not my favorite and has a LOT of paintings not suitable for elementary children, he is a household artist name and there are lessons and picture books dedicated to the study of this famous modern artist.
I teach a music and art class each semester and I'm excited to use some of the ideas from Deep Space Sparkle and other resources online to encourage students in making their own art while also learning about the artist.
Some picture books that I've ordered are "When Pigcasso Met Mootise" "If Picasso Painted a Snowman" and "Picasso and the Girl with a Ponytail" (Amazon affiliate links are located below. I appreciate purchases through the links as it goes back into our homeschool book fund!)
These picture books will add a fun element to our lessons as we create some Picasso inspired art!
The benefit of living close to the Frist is that we can see some of these famous paintings in person. I've spent the good part of this morning researching what paintings will be displayed in this exhibition. I'm careful of what art I expose my children to so I want to know what will be a hit and what will be a miss for our visit!
If you would like to see the pictures of all the works in the exhibition, you can view my slideshow here.
I will NOT be showing this slideshow to students. This is for parent/teacher to observe which rooms of the exhibition to tour.
I will give students their own pamphlet as we create some inspired art during our lessons! You can download the pamphlet here!
If you would like ideas on how to teach a four week art appreciation on Picasso, download my lesson plan here!
For a scavenger hunt at the Frist, download the free printable here!
The American West is currently on exhibit as well. My friend Lara made a scavenger hunt for this exhibit and you can download it here!
Because of the limitations due to COVID-19 you will need to reserve tickets and times before you go.
